Forced Proximity

The landscape of my childhood includes endless fields that morph into mountains, a freshly mowed lawn the size of a football field, and wild blackberry patches growing untamed every summer. Many of these idyllic landscapes weren’t around my own home, but those of my friends’ and family’s. As I’ve moved into adulthood, each of these scenes have changed into something new. Often, rapid development of suburban neighborhoods removes the idyllic nature of beautiful landscapes and invites new people into a once sparsely populated area. My work depicts suburban development over farmland. As farms give way to cookie cutter houses and parks give way to landlines, I feel my childhood landscape slipping into suburban anonymity. This is an ongoing project exploring continued growth in American Fork, UT.
